Creative Administrative Assistant

1 Position Available

The Administrative Assistant partners with the Editorial Director to ensure the smooth operation of the Editorial Production team. This includes providing general administrative support, assisting with projects, managing author contracts/invoicing, as well as ordering supplies and consumables. This individual will also provide support for any pre-press related requests, as needed.

Successful candidates for this role should be flexible, exemplify a "no task is too small" mentality, maintain a high level of professionalism at all times, and utilize multitasking skills. The ability to pay attention to the small details, manage change and remain focused while coordinating and completing multiple tasks is a must.

You'll interact with Leisure Arts staff across multiple states, which will give you a big picture perspective of the exciting developments in the Crafts Industry. You'll work in various software programs.

You'll work with the team to complete all team tasks each day and to respond efficiently to requests from internal customers.

You'll be expected to consistently complete quality work in a timely manner, inspect your own work, quickly learn new tasks, and adapt to changes in process. You'll have a great support system of coworkers and leaders that want to see you succeed and grow.

What You'll Need to Be Successful

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
  • Savvy with Microsoft Office Suite and using a computer in general.
  • Courteous, professional, and positive with others via phone, in writing, and in person.

  • Strong self-motivation and ability to work independently, but also willingness and ability to effectively contribute to our team.

How You'll Help Us Be Successful

  • Provide general assistance (including clerical support and project assistance) and coverage for the Editorial Director.
  • Provide general assistance (including clerical support and project assistance) and coverage for the Acquisitions Editor.
  • Create and maintain author/designer files and invoice processing.
  • Contract Manage all aspects of package processing and delivery including distribution within the department, logging packages, basic troubleshooting of equipment and coordinating pick-up with courier services.
  • Assist colleagues with producing and coordinating various work products including book and packaging mock ups, and marketing presentations.
  • Review packing slips and ensure that miscellaneous consumables and stock have been received correctly; bring discrepancies to vendor's attention.
  • Order, organize, and track inventory for the department, including snacks, drinks, paper products, and office supplies. Replenish the kitchen, pantries, print stations

Graphic Artist

1 Position Available

You will be working directly with our Editorial Director, Sales Team and Product Development Director, conceptualizing and producing original designs for various products and retailers. Take a project from conception to completion (initial illustration to specs to production). Your ability to work under pressure and turn around great designs on tight deadlines is crucial. Your design eye should be outstanding with no detail passing you by, from paper texture and printed color to spacing consistencies. You can conceptualize in 2-D and 3-D forms and push the limits of design. There's a lot to get done and the right candidate will be energized by the chance to work closely across teams to create the best creative solutions!

We are seeking a thoughtful, passionate, and creative Graphic Artist to join our team. Leisure Arts is developing craft products and publications to bring inspiration and relaxation to the masses.

We want someone to join the team who is excited about designing these products and creating a strong brand experience for our customers. The ideal candidate has a design personality that matches the LA culture- modern and fun with personality. You notice all the tiny details without losing the big picture plus constantly critiquing and analyzing every brand experience. You're comfortable quickly iterating your way to a final, well-thought out design solution. You know how to articulate the rationale behind every design decision you make.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design
  • 3-5 years of page layout and packaging design experience
  • A strong portfolio including print and packaging work - solid understanding of the print world, CMYK and Pantone
  • Expertise in creating packaging designs from concept to completion (materials, tolerances, die lines)
  • Strong grasp of core design principles including typography, color, visual flow, layout, legibility
  • Experience in creating technical drawings, instructions and product specifications
  • Above average skills in Illustrator and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Illustration/painting/hand lettering skills are a plus!
  • Great typography skills
  • Strong file management skills with strong ability to produce logical, efficient, print-ready files
  • Familiarity with the latest design trends
  • The ability to seamlessly balance long term projects with daily design needs
  • Strong communication skills and a precise attention to details
