Take a tame, familiar quilt block and unleash it to create a fresh, modern look. Eleanor Levie and five quilters famous for innovation put their spins on well-loved classics. Gorgeous photos make you gaga for wonky hearts, skewed nine-patches, a crazy-quilted star, split Log Cabins, a basket gone bonkers, and more. Guided by easy how-to’s and more than 120 step-by-step photos, even beginning quilters can make super-cool pillows, quilts, wall hangings, and bags. There are also plenty of hands-on extras: tips and tricks for color, composition, and design, plus workbook (er, rather playbook) sections that offer lots of jumping-off points to tweak tradition and create your own original blocks. In short, you’ll be wild for these bold takes on old favorites!

To say that Eleanor Levie and Celebrity Quilters are a little twisted is simply stating the obvious. This bunch of creative quilters has come up with the idea of using traditional quilt blocks, but with a twist. A quote from the book cover “transform trad into rad, the past into a blast.”
There are 10 terrific projects in this Leisure Arts publication and everyone has a little warp on the traditional approach and the results are simply stunning.
Just flipping through the project titles give you a hint that this book is very different and you’ll be exposing yourself to some extraordinary concepts that really work to make bright modern designs.
Some of the projects are titled: NINE PATCH Goes to Pot; BASKET Goes Bonkers ; LOG CABIN Split Level; HEARTS Askew and RAIL FENCE Derailed.
I get the sense that this publication is aimed at the new quilter, and one that is under 30 years of age. The designs are funky, the instructions and layout on the page are bright and busy and very typical of media targeted at the younger generation.
A clever addition is the “playbook” paragraphs with lots of hints and tips to make your creations a piece of cake.
This publication is ideal for the newby quilter and especially for the young at heart.

I was drawn to this book by the beautiful cover projects and I was very excited to find a great volume chock full of clever,unexpected,off-beat and exciting projects, as well as amusing puns ( some of which made me laugh out loud) and beautiful photographs. The clear and thoughtful instructions were detailed and easy to follow with many step by step directions. This book is a very encouraging entry into modern techniques to give new spice to familiar quilt blocks, and the results were fun and fresh. I can't wait to get sewing!

With this beautifully done, easy to follow book, you can learn how to be a designer not just a quilter. Here's the place to find out how to think outside of the quilt block. The 9 patch potholder now adorns my kitchen.
