Never go without flowers. Craft the flowers used in this Marigold Basket from spruce pinecones to make a floral display in gorgeous colors that will never fade away. The constant blooms are hand-crafted from painted spruce pinecones in a variety of marigold colors of yellow, orange and rust. The skill level to complete this project is rated as “intermediate”. This project appeared in original leaflet 1622 – A Beginner’s Guide to Pinecone Florals by Theresa Morgan. The materials needed to transform the pinecones into flowers include: spruce pinecones (assorted sizes), 18 gauge floral wire, green floral tape, spray paint (used for the petals), acrylic paint (used for the base and accent colors), and gloss-finish clear acrylic spray sealer. To make the twig basket, the materials include: 10.75”w x 14.5”h x 7”d [27.305 cm x 36.83 cm x 17.78 cm] twig basket with two clay pots, pinecone marigolds (in assorted sizes and colors), 4”h [10.16 cm] birch birdhouse with 10”h [25.4 cm] twig as birdhouse stand, artificial silk boxwood greenery, preserved tree fern, floral foam and sheet moss.
