Designer: Anne Rabun Ough Original Publication: Leisure Arts Leaflet #250, Fisherman Crochet Afghans Description: Fisherman Crochet offers a challenge to those who have not tried it. However, you will find that the patterns are made up of stitches you already know, worked in different techniques to become unique patterns. The distinctive characteristic of Fisherman Crochet is the texture formed on the right side, leaving the wrong side with the appearance of solid single crochet. The Limerick Afghan uses these pattern stitches: Low Ridge Front, Low Ridge Back, Cable, Shadow Box, Bow Tie, and Woven Stitch. The Armagh Afghan uses Knurl, Arrow, Low Ridge Front, High Ridge Front, Cable, Diamond, Fishbone, and Popcorn Diamond. The afghans are crocheted using worsted weight yarn and sizes I (5.50 mm) and J (6.00 mm) hooks. Product Type: Digital Download

I had booklet 250 with 6 patterns in it since the 1980's. I have made dozens afghans from that book as gifts for family, friends, and co-workers. Recently a new puppy destroyed the book, so I was glad to find this pattern still available online. I had significant difficulty with the cable stitch when I made the first blanket many years ago, but I soon mastered it and now it's my favorite.
