  1. Hi Jenny S!

Posted by Merrilee @ Leisure Arts on 14th Aug 2012

There is no correction to Sweet Hugs & Kisses; Row 23 is correct as written.

When working the Puff Sts on Row 23, you will be skipping the sc behind each Puff St. Following please find math proof for this row:

Ch 1, turn; sc in both loops of first 6 sc (6 sc), work Puff St in free loop of sc one row below sc just worked into (1 Puff St), skip next sc from last sc worked, sc in both loops of next sc (+ 1 sc), skip next sc and work Puff St in free loop of sc one row below next sc (+ 1 Puff St), * skip next sc from last sc worked, sc in both loops of next 7 sc (+ 7 sc), work Puff St in free loop of sc one row below next sc (+ 1 Puff St), skip next sc from last sc worked, sc in both loops of next sc (+ 1 sc), work Puff St in free loop of sc one row below next sc (+ 1 Puff St), skip next sc from last sc worked, sc in both loops of next 7 sc (+ 7 sc), work Puff St in free loop of sc one row below sc just worked into (+ 1 Puff St), skip next sc from last sc worked, sc in both loops of next sc (+ 1 sc), skip next sc and work Puff St in free loop of sc one row below next sc (+ 1 Puff St); repeat from * across to last 7 sc, skip next sc from last sc worked, sc in both loops of last 6 sc (+ 6 sc)

    6 + 1 + * (7 + 1 + 7 + 1) x 7 repeats * + 6
    7 + * 16 x 7 * + 6
    7 + * 112 * + 6 = 125 sc

    1 + 1 + * (1 + 1 + 1 + 1) x 7 repeats *
    2 + * 4 x 7 * = 30 Puff Sts

When you work Row 23, the first Puff St is worked into the free loop of the sc one row below the sc you just worked into, which puts the Puff St under the sixth sc you made (so the Puff St is angled back). Then you skip the next sc from the last sc worked (the sc behind the Puff St), sc in both loops of next sc, skip next sc and work Puff St in free loop of sc one row below the next sc (so the Puff St is angled forward), putting 3 sc between Puff Sts on the row below. So, when you work Row 27 and have 3 sc between the Puff Sts, that will make the top and bottom of the X the same width, with 3 sc between each Puff St.

We know that all the "below" and "next" instructions get confusing, and we hope that this will clarify the placement of the Puff Sts for you. You can also refer to the photo on page 14 and see that there are 3 sc between the bottom 2 Puff Sts of the X and how those 2 Puff Sts angle out.

We hope this information will be helpful to you and clarify the instructions so you can proceed with this lovely afghan.
