On Rnd 5 (and all the other rounds), the first chain 2 counts as the first hdc. There is a note after Rnd 2 that addresses the first hdc of each round. When you join the round with the single crochet in top of the beginning ch-2, that stitch is now available to be worked into or around on the next round (it is not really considered to be the first hdc, it is now the next hdc). The chain can be worked around with the first FPdc of Rnd 6. Just put your hook around the chain 2 like you would around the post of a stitch. Also be sure that you are joining the rounds with a single crochet to make the last corner ch-1 sp, otherwise the pattern will be thrown off. I have completed this one and it is BEAUTIFUL, a true work of art.
There were some rows that just did not work out the way the directions indicated, but I was able to even them out when I did the border and all is well.
Thanks for the lovely pattern

We need to know exactly which afghan from A Year of Baby Afghans that you're working on before we can help. Please provide us with more information.
And I agree! Code is annoying! Just keep clicking refresh till it gives you one you can decipher!
