  1. Hi Rose!

Posted by Merrilee @ Leisure Arts on 7th Aug 2012

Rita Weiss of The Creative Partners who wrote these patterns says concerning the "Leaf and Trellis" design that this multiple will work over 43 sts, which it does (she stated that the photo model was made on 43 sts).

    However, in checking the multiples here at Leisure Arts, we find that all 17 rows will only work on 43 sts, 223 sts, and 403 sts. Any multiples of 20 + 3 will not work on the first 7 rows of pattern, as these rows are a multiple of 18 + 7, which means you have to find a multiple of 20 + 3 and a multiple of 18 + 7 that will be the same number. These multiples are [(18 x 2) + 7] = 43; [(18 x 12) + 7] = 223; and [(18 x 22) + 7] = 403.

We hope this information with the three stitch counts this lovely pattern does work on will be helpful to you with any project you intend to make.

  2. Hi Alex!

I checked with our expert for tips about the Chevron Pattern, and here's what she says:

I checked the pattern and it does work on 13 stitches (multiple of 12+1), but you have to be sure to work the “ending last rep” each time instead of the “regular” pattern on rows 2, 4, 6, 10, and 14 if you are using only 13 sts. I think that you should cast on at least 37 sts so that you would have 2 full “repeats” and the ending repeat to work on. I couldn’t see how 20 sts would work.

Here’s the math on Row 2
    Row 2: K4; *K2tog, YO, K1, YO, sl 1, K1, PSSO, K4 instead of K7.
    4 + 2 +1 +1 +1 +4 = 13 sts used.

    Hope this helps!

Here's what our expert says in response to your comment:

At the beginning of the pattern in the Stitch Guide, the P2SSO is spelled out as “Sl 2 sts one at a time to right needle, knit next st; then pass both sl sts tog over knit st: P2SSO made.” So when you reach the instruction on Row 9 to P2SSO, follow those instructions to work it.
