The doodler's basic swirl has many variations. You can elongate it, shorten it, or only swirl one end. You can keep curling the end in smaller circles like a whirlpool or make it big and broad, as large as you like. Take a look at the examples on our Free Projects page, give them a try, and see which ones feel good to you. Practicing really pays off with swirls. Click for the free instructions.

News placeholder Art Made Easy: Painting Nature (#22628)
Paint-by-number has grown up! Now you can create your own masterpieces using iron-on transfers and our Art Made Easy technique. These 15 nature paintings, including the tranquil Koi Circle, will lend rich color to lots of home decor styles.

  • Decide which painting technique is best for you. Beginner level designs, such as the Koi Circle, are easier to paint by painting all the areas of the same color at one time. Advanced level designs, such as the Time for Tulips, are easier to paint working from the background to the foreground. You can paint the designs in this book using either technique.
  • Always use fresh paint. If your paint begins to dry out, stir it with a toothpick. If it gets too thick, add water, one drop at a time, until paint is thinned or apply a new puddle of paint on your palette.
  • For large areas, paint along the outline of the area with a small brush, then fill in the area with a large flat brush. Hint: Painter's tape placed along a border will help ensure a straight, even line.
