Summer footwear and a reflection on marriage
Designer flip-flops are popular now (and often pricey, too!), but our crochet design makes it possible to jazz up plain, inexpensive ones. Because you are blending two yarn colors, the possible looks you can create are endless. You can make our simple anklet to complement these flip-flops or any other shoes. A few beads add pizzazz, while a tiny seashell enhances the fun-in-the-sun style.
If you need a special gift for a June bride, or if your own love life is blossoming, consider our Reflection on Marriage cross stitch design. The floral border sets a romantic mood, and the thought-provoking verse could be shifted up a few squares to make room for personalizing. Use your favorite small backstitch alphabet to chart the couple's first names and wedding date, or use the Quick Search feature on our Web site to find alphabets charted for cross stitch.
(Editor’s Note: If you’re new to crochet, hemp jewelry, or cross stitch, ask for our teach-yourself books at your local store or check our Web site for helpful guides such as I Can’t Believe I’m Crocheting, A Beginner's Guide to Hemp Jewelry and Cross Stitch for Beginners.)

Beaded Anklet
(By Cyndi Hansen)
For a 9" long anklet, you’ll need:
72" each of 2 colors of hemp cord
A bead or button with a center hole
4 beads, each about 1⁄4" long
A cowrie shell
Thread both strands of hemp through the center hole bead, placing the bead at the center of the hemp lengths. Work 2 square knots below the bead.
|
Tie a knot about 1" below the square knots and another 1" below that.
Separate the hemp strands and slide 2 beads onto 2 of the strands. Tie an overhand knot in all 4 hemp strands to hold the beads in place.
Separate the hemp strands again and thread 2 strands through the cowrie shell; tie slip knots to hold the shell in place.
Tie an overhand knot with all 4 hemp strands just below the cowrie shell.
Separate the hemp strands and slide the last 2 beads onto 2 of the strands. Tie an overhand knot in all 4 hemp strands to hold the beads in place.
Tie 3 more overhand knots, about 1" apart, and you’re done!
